Builder & Remodeling Tip: The "Wow" Factor
Butch Charlton has been in the fireplace and building supply business for almost 35 years at C. Bennett. In those years, he has helped complete thousands of homes and has impressed many with his knowledge in fireplaces, shower doors, appliances, shelving, door hardware, and more.
When remodeling or building a home, the "wow" factor is always important. People are visual especially when it comes to homes. When selling a home with a fireplace, Butch recommends to use gas instead of wood-burning fireplaces as gas fireplaces such as direct vent and vent free have surpassed the wood-burning fireplace in popularity. However, if a wood-burning fireplace is installed in a home, it's recommended to run a gas line and to insert gas logs into the fireplace. That way, if the homeowner changes their mind they can easily convert their fireplace back to wood burning.
When shelving is involved, the "wow" factor is also important. More shelving will increase the "wow" factor significantly. Imagine walking into a closet with a single shelf to hang clothes. Now, imagine walking into that same closet with more shelves that enable a homeowner to organize all of their clothes. Which would you choose?
