Appliance Tip: How to Clean Stainless Steel & Make it Smudge Free
Stainless steel appliances give you the contemporary, sleek look that is the hallmark of modern kitchens. The clean, smooth, reflective surface is everything you desire in a kitchen, except the fingerprints and smudges that inevitably accumulate. Those pesky fingerprints and smudges may never disappear completely, but there is a way to keep them at bay. With regular cleaning and these household items, this DIY cleaning tip can help keep your stainless steel appliances looking fresh.
1) Clean the stainless steel with a cloth dipped in soap and water. Or as an alternative, spray window cleaner on surface and wipe it off with a cloth.
2) Apply distilled white vinegar, lemon juice or soda water to clean cloth and rub stainless steel with it to increase shine and remove any stubborn prints.
3) Drip olive oil or scent-free baby oil onto clean cloth, or a furniture polish or car wax, and buff the stainless steel until a thin, even layer is dispersed.
4) Continue buffing the stainless steel until it has a uniform shine. The oil, polish, or wax helps make the surface more resistant to grease and fingerprints.
Repeating this cleaning and buffing process during your normal weekly or biweekly housekeeping routine will help keep your beautiful stainless steel appliances looking clean and fingerprint/smudge free.
