Choosing Between Solid Wood & Melamine for your Custom Closet

Deciding what material to use when designing your custom closet is the most difficult part. Solid wood is often the material of choice, but melamine, a man-made engineered wood is also becoming increasingly popular. But how do you decide which material is best for you? Consider these things below.

Solid wood closets are going to be much more expensive than melamine shelving. If you have a specific of tight budget that you need to stay in for your closet, melamine is the more cost-effective option.

If you designed your home with wood trim, built-ins or wood floors, going with solid wood for your custom closet may look better with your overall theme.

If your home is designed in a more contemporary and colorful style, melamine may be the right fit for you. Melamine is available in a variety of veneer finished that allow you to match it to whatever theme you choose. While wood can be painted any color, some people prefer the look of colored veneer over painted wood.

Wood is susceptible to warping, moisture and othe conditions, so it may not be the best choice for basements or garages. The high quality melamine is not likely to warp. It is also generally more durable in less-than-ideal environments.

Melamine also works well for adjustable shelves. if you plan on moving the shelving in your closet storage regularly to fit your ever-changing needs, melamine would make it much easier.

Either wood choice is easy to clean and maintain, it all depends on the look that your prefer!
